“Yes, it is possible to be so overwhelmed with darkness that you do not know if you are a Christian – and yet still be one.”
“It is utterly crucial that in our darkness we affirm the wise, strong hand of God to hold us, even when we have no strength to hold him.”
-John Piper (separate quotes, same book)
Today’s recommendation is to pick up an amazing book from good ol John Piper (J-Pipes) called When The Darkness Will Not Lift, and it’s one I’ll be rereading very soon. At only 80pgs (and 6 chapters) the book sets out (and praise be to God, accomplishes it’s mission) to provide comfort and guidance to those who are experiencing bouts of spiritual darkness and(/or) periods of depression. This book is great for those going through those things – and, I’d say, for those who would like/need to gain some insight into these important matters.
The book can be found for purchase on amazon.ca here and amazon.com here.
Hope you all have a blessed weekend.
If you haven’t come across Jon Acuff’s ‘Stuff Christians Like’, I simply cannot recommend it enough. I happened across the book version while browsing amazon (it was recommended after Coffee with Jesus). It’s as insightful and thought provoking as it is funny (and it is VERY funny) – it explores some attitudes, weird behaviours, and thought processes that we Christians have and nails them on the head in hilarious and contemplating fashion. I couldn’t put it down. A great read and will be a great addition to your library.
Stuff Christians like can be found here on amazon.ca , here on amazon.com , and the blog can be found here (you really should click me). Though Mr Acuff hasn’t updated it since Jan 2015, hopefully he will soon.
God bless my friends.
Coffee with Jesus is something I bought on a whim at the Today’s Teens conference a couple of years ago, and truth be told I wasn’t expecting much. However – much to my surprise what I got was something that was incredibly thought provoking, funny, and relatable. It’s something I recommend to everyone, especially those involved in church ministry.
I cannot recommend this book enough, and it can be found here on amazon.ca or here on
Hope you all have a blessed day.
